Cultural Identity

Cultural Identity
This activity is to engage and increase your intercultural competence by introducing ideas of culture related to tourism and identity. Watch this video about the Iceberg Theory, and look at the image below. Remember that many different cultures can exist within a country, region, city, and neighborhood.

In the comments answer these questions:
1. Choose two concepts from the bottom part of the iceberg and describe how you think that these can vary across cultures.
2. In your experiences with people from other cultures, what concepts of culture
from the bottom part of the iceberg manifested in your interactions with them?

An example for me in Colombia is the difference in tempo of work. Tempo of work in the United States is faster in Colombia. I find myself pressuring my coworkers or even friends for a faster tempo of work, or sometimes I am stressed when the tempo is slower.
